BUT everyone just uses PUMBA to bumb it down for Americans – because we all know the movie: The Lion King
Actually, in Swahili, the word PUMBA means “stupid”
Not because the animal is stupid, well….. ok, maybe that is why.. because it has a super short memory.
When alerted or scared, it puts its tail up in the air like an antenna, and runs! Then, moments later, it forgets why it was running… puts its tail back down, and the predator is able to catch them! They seem to just “forget” why they were running. This has lead to the use of the word PUMBA (stupid) for the cute animal with the short memory.
