Municipality of Parintins is located in the state of Amazonas, is the second largest city in the state in numbers of inhabitants after Manaus. They have a tradition which is extremely important to them, which is based on a very odd legend, involving a bull. Basically they entire town splits into 2 divisions: red and blue. The blue is Caprochoso, and the red is Garantido. They have an elaborate display called the Boi Bumba festival, which involves a series of massive parades, floats, and elaborate costumes. It’s a lot of fun!

Parintins Folklore Festival (Festival Folclórico de Parintins), or often also called Festival do Boi-BumbáBumba Meu Boi, or simply Festival, is a popular annual celebration during three days in late June held in the Brazilian city of ParintinsAmazonas. It is one of the largest annual festivals in Brazil;[1] only the Carnival festivities in Rio de Janeiro and Salvador draw more participants. The festival is recognized as a Cultural Heritage of Brazil by the National Institute of Historic and Artistic Heritage.[2]

The festival celebrates a local legend about a resurrected ox. It is also a competition where two teams, Garantido and Caprichoso, compete in extended retellings of the story, each team attempting to outdo the other with flamboyant dances, singing, and parade floats.
